Design
Introduction to Design
Text of the video
Now you know based on the discover phase how your online course or your blended course will look like. We can now start with next phase, called Design.
In the Design phase you will actually build your course by producing or collecting your content. Most of the time will go in the production of videomaterials and also putting everything in the right digital tool. After that you need to test everything.
This is the phase witch takes the most time. But remember: If you have questions about something, you can put your question in the closed facebook group of this project. We or one of the other partners will try to help you because we are all-in together!
Before we start
What is TPACK?
TPACK is one of the best frameworks to use if you want to make online content. This framework forces you to think about 3 important questions when making online content.
- Which course objectives do you want to teach? What do you want to teach?
= Content Knowledge (CK) - Which pedagogical methology to you want to use for this course objectives? How do you want to teach?
= Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) - Which digital tool will give you an added value by using it for your chosen course objectives and your chosen pedagogical methology?
= Technological Knowledge (TK)
The answer to those 3 questions is: The right digital tool that helps you teaching what you want and how you want it.
= Technological and Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)
In this module you will:
- learn how to select an appropriate theme
- learn to select a good pedagogical methodology (for the theme chosen)
- learn to select a good digital tool for the methodology and the chosen theme
How to make the design?
Theme and selected course objectives
Before we completed the discover step, the first step in making an online course for blended learning. In this first step you have stated a clear view of what you need to know before making the online course for the blended learning. This step is essential in building an blended learning environment, and thus a completed form is essential in continuing this learning path.
Methodology
Once you have selected your course objectives, it is time to Select a teaching strategy, including the blended learning aspect in this case.
A teaching strategy involves combining and sequencing a number of different instructional activities to help students accomplish the learning goals of the class. To determine an effective teaching strategy, think about what you want students to be able to do when they leave the course (e.g., apply certain formulas? Learn how to use a particular tool? Learn to classify plants? Apply for a government grant in forestry?).
Having identified the broad learning objectives, work backwards, asking yourself: What particular skills and knowledge will students need in order to accomplish these objectives and set up a plan to get there.
- Theory
- Individual exercises
- Collaborative learning
- Experimental learning
Digital tool
Look here what kind of digital tools we have for you.
For the application of the design step, we use the blueprint (below), as a realisation of a hands-on version of the TPACK-model. In the blueprint you make a sketch of how your blended learning environment will look like. The thinglink explains the different aspects of the form.
